Greensboro Martial Arts Academy
The Shaolin and Wu Tang martial arts were only selectively taught to certain individuals. A person would have to be of Royal Chinese Blood, well respected and high ranking in the Chinese Military, or be someone with traits of extremely high character, moral values, and dedication in order to be trained. More information is available on the Prospective Students page. Although during certain periods in China’s history the general public was taught some martial arts skills during times of war and oppression, these skills were basic and minimal depending on the severity of the situation and were usually broken down to the point where a person could learn fairly quickly to be decent on the battlefield (keep in mind that even these basic skills were far advanced compared to the typical warfare of the day). This being the case, the number of people actually learning the complete Chinese Martial Arts systems were relatively few. It is for this reason that the Chinese masters have placed such an emphasis on genealogy of their systems along with a considerable amount of documentation (Our genealogies are listed on the main page for each system of study). A true master should be able to trace his system back, teacher by teacher, to a certain Temple, General, or Emperor…depending on the system of study.

“It is family owned and many of the staff trained under the current owner.”
“The instructors are good people who want to see the children succeed.”
“I highly recommend this place.”
We love Taekwondo America! The staff are great with the children and adults alike. It is family owned and many of the staff trained under the current owner. Supporting local business is something I love to do. Even with the pandemic of 2020 they have found ways to keep their pupils active.
My daughter wanted to try taekwondo and I’m so glad we found this place. It has really helped with her balance, flexibility, and strength, as well as given her a lot of confidence. Chris Penn is great with the kids!
Watch out! The first class is free and it’s so addictive you won’t be able to stop! First my daughter was hooked, then me, then my wife and other daughter. Four years later and we have a whole family of black belts.
It’s a great way to get or stay in shape. Mr. Penn has been teaching Taekwondo for over 15 years and it great at making it fun and challenging for all ages and fitness levels.
If you want to learn martial arts, or just want a fun way to get in shape, Greensboro Taekwondo America is the place to go!

“Great place for kids.Teaches respect, discipline and focus.”
I can’t say enough good things about Tiger Kim’s Greensboro’s location.
We enrolled my son about 4 months ago in the Little Tiger Program, and I decided to try it for myself about 2.5 months ago. We love going to class. Master K. Kim is the best! He always has the best feedback, is very knowledgeable and super kind. Also can’t forget to mention Master J and Master Cho (who’s no longer there) and all our instructors. We truly have the best staff. 🧡🖤🤍
At Tiger Kim’s GSO we feel at home. We are learning so much and we plan on never giving up 😉 and get our Black Belts.
I have been with Tiger Kim’s for over three years now. Best decision of my life. My son and I are currently working towards our black belt together. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable. Kids are relaxed and having fun while learning a life skill. Adults get a sense of community as well as an amazing workout. I highly recommend Tiger Kim’s. Especially the Greensboro location.
Great place. Great structure. Students placed in small groups with multiple instructors always available to you and your child! I was highly impressed and am happy with my child’s experience here! Great values reinforced to kids as well!
Greensboro Jiu Jitsu
Our academy’s purpose is to benefit and enrich the community and ourselves through our exploration of Jiu-Jitsu. Our gym is made up of members of a family who strive to see improvements in others as much as themselves on a daily basis. Here at Greensboro Jiu-Jitsu we understand that the principles we learn have a direct impact on our approach to daily life. We understand that as we grow and strive to understand more about ourselves and our place in the Jiu-Jitsu world, approaching this art with love and compassion, that we will also see such reflected in our attitude toward ourselves and others. Here we try to tackle first the obstacles that face us from within so that we can better master those we face outside of ourselves. A perpetual journey that is made much easier by a supportive team and family.

“Perfect for people who want strength training and cardio in one quick workout.”
“If your considering martial arts or self-defense, this is the place to start!”
“The instructors care about their students and are very knowledgable.”
Herman is a natural when it comes to working with children. He knows how to keep them focused; he’s patient and he does it all with a smile. He truly enjoys working with the kids and they all look up to him.
This is my first experience with any kind of martial art & as intimidating as it was, Herman made the application process incredibly easy & comfortable. During class he’s encouraging & helpful. Everyone who attends these classes are so welcoming & friendly, which made my first week a lot less scary 😅 I’m really excited to continue learning here!
Great place to train and great people to train with. Herman teaches BJJ with a strong conceptual approach focusing on movement and fundamentals first to ensure a strong base from which a wide variety of grappling game’s prospered.

“He is my instructor, my mentor, and my friend.”
Amazing place!!! From the Master to the instructors, everything about here is great. The passion and determination they have for teaching kids of all ages is amazing!! I highly recommend
Master Yu is INCREDIBLE! He is, without question, one of the most qualified Tae Kwon Do instructors in the WORLD!
I trained and taught under Master Yu continually for 25 years, with three of my children training under him as well. He is an awesome instructor, unequaled in his credentials, his skill, and experience.
Over 30 years ago he broke the tops of five, standing, thick-green Coke bottles. He was a top instructor in Korea before coming to the United States in 1972, having taught advanced technique to Korean soldiers going behind enemy lines during the Vietnam war.
He is my instructor, my mentor, and my friend. I can’t imagine referring students anywhere other than Young Yu Tae Kwon Do school.
Thank you very much Master Yu, for everything you did for me, and for my family, over 2 1/2 decades. I will be forever grateful.
5th degree under Master Young Yu.
I was a student there when I was a kid, and not only did I learn quite a bit in the year and a half I was there but I had fun. Master Yu and the other instructors there at the time made sure to take their time with every student who needed help
