Life Coming Alive
If you are looking for a local karate dojo for your child(ten), I need to give a MASSIVE shout out/recommendation for Taylor Martial Arts. I truly cannot speak highly enough about our experience with them.
They so clearly care about the whole child, not just the physical. The instructors are compassionate, gentle, respectful, and fun. You can tell they are very adept at/versed in training children with a variety of special needs. They ask the parent from the get go what their specific goals are for their child and really focus on that. They use the child’s first name (instead of “ninja,” “you,” “buddy,” etc) from the first class and every time. The studio is older, and in a less polished commercial center, but has a warm, welcoming, family feel. They do have in-person classes, but also have virtual classes, which is great because whether your child were to be home on a quarantine for just one class, or to need a regular, virtual option, they have made training accessible for anyone. Also, their prices are reasonable. I am SO incredibly grateful for the positive impact I can already see for my kiddo in training just a short time with them.
In short, please, if you are considering martial arts for your child, check out Taylor Martial Arts. (I get nothing from them for posting this, except the true joy of the idea of more kiddos benefiting from the gracious, caring instruction/service that they provide)
My 5yr old started here a month ago and it’s been absolutely amazing. The sensei’s are so wonderful with the young kids and teach them so much! They take time with each child and I can’t even believe how they remember all these kids names so fast, lol. My child looks forward to going twice a week and earning his stripes! The class sizes during the weekdays aren’t very large usually anywhere from 10-15. If the classes on weekends get to large they split them in half and use both rooms. Wonderful dojo of your looking go check it out and try a class for your child!
I attended this dojo since I was 7 and received my junior black belt at the age of 17. It was the best decade of my life. The staff was amazing. Sensei Taylor was a wonderful instructor. I learned great discipline, safe awareness, & a TON of self-defense techniques. It was hard work, but a lot of fun!

I believe his class has made an impact in my daughters life and will continue to in the next coming years. You can tell when someone is doing the class just for business or they truly care and Master Park truly cares. Thank you Master Park for always dedicating your time with the kids!!!

Sungadan Studios Karate
SUNGADAN (pronounced: soong – ah – dawn) is a small fishing and farming village in the Ilocos region of Northern Philippines. It is a place where people put Love, Peace, Respect, Honor and Commitment to Family above anything. Sungadan (literal meaning “Entrance”) is chosen for the name of the art, to symbolize the student’s entrance to the secrets of Martial Arts.
In our studio we teach traditional Martial Arts, which include: Karate, Ju Jutsu and Filipino Martial Arts. Sungadan is a blend of several empty hand and weapon based combat disciplines using Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karate as the base art. The incorporation of the empty hand art of Awaten Combat Ju Jutsu, Tae Kyon (Tae Kwon Do), Yang Luchuan Tai Chi, Gee Joh Acupressure and Dimmak, the weapon based arts of Filipino Stick and Knife Fighting, Japanese Sword Art of Goshindo, and Okinawan Kubudo Weaponry, define the Sungadan system.

Have bee here since I was 6. I am now a black belt here, and the teaching is very good. They teach how to apply what they teach you for self defense. Very good school, and also little tolerance for immaturity. Very good school.
